Why Millennials are Flocking to Arizona

Arizona might not be the first place you think of when you hear the word “Millennial,” but take a quick look and you’ll see that might not be the case much longer. The Millennial crowd is heading to the Grand Canyon State in large numbers and they are making it a prime spot for others of their age group.

With two large state universities in Arizona and a rising tech sector, it’s no wonder the state is picking up popularity. It also helps that Arizona is a very affordable state, making it a great option for first-time apartment renters and home buyers. The state is going from a lower-ranked state for Millennials to one of the best spots for Millennial life.

It’s Always Sunny in Arizona

That’s not 100 percent valid, but it almost is. While the weather may not be happy sunshine every day, Arizona weather does offer its share of fun. With an average of 300-plus days of sunshine, you have the opportunity to enjoy all sorts of activities – from visiting the Grand Canyon to checking out the new Millennial hub that is Tucson. If enjoying life is your thing, then Arizona is the place for you. Not only is there adventure in every corner, but there’s also pleasant weather too.

Central Arizona is a warm, sunny area but has plenty of pools to cool off if it’s too hot for you. Northern Arizona, though, is entirely different. The air is cooler and the nights are crisper. Wintertime marks a genuine difference as you witness the snow covering the mountains in preparation for ski season in the north and shorts-and-T-shirt weather in the central and southern areas of the state.

Part of being a Millennial is enjoying life and what it has to offer. Arizona offers sunshine and two types of winter all in one place. What more could you want, weather-wise, at least?

Millennial Takeover: The Tech Sector

The best part is that Arizona is not just literally sunny most of the time; it’s very much metaphorically sunny, at least for Millennials. It’s a place where you have the chance to live, work and play all in one location, and who wouldn’t be happy about that?

When it comes to working, Arizona is a prime spot for young professionals looking for jobs in tech. As the “Silicon Desert,” Phoenix has an array of tech-related companies located within the metropolitan area. Companies such as Apple, Go Daddy, IBM, Intel and PayPal have headquarters or a major subsidiary in Phoenix, making it an excellent place for those interested in tech and tech-related fields.

And there’s good news for recent graduates and other Millennials on the job hunt. According to a recent WalletHub survey, five Arizona cities are on the list for 2017 best cities for jobs. There’s job growth in Arizona and it’s time to take advantage of it.

For those more independent folk who have an entrepreneurial spirit, Phoenix offers help to those beginning their venture into the startup world. Organizations such as SEED SPOT, CO+HOOTS and the Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship all provide great mentorship for young Millennials in the tech field. It’s the perfect breeding ground for the startup environment, resources, connections and guided expertise.

Nightlife in Arizona

Arizona isn’t all work, though. It also has a fun atmosphere to it. The city of Scottsdale is No. 10 on WalletHub’s list of 2016’s Most Fun Cities in America and that’s no surprise considering it is home to three of the most lucrative nightclubs in America, Maya Day & Nightclub, Cake Nightclub and Shade Lounge.

While it’s not a hot scene like Las Vegas or New York, Scottsdale definitely has its share of nighttime fun to share with more than 80 wine bars, lounges and clubs with a variety of music, such as country, EDM and hip-hop. With such a range of fun, there won’t be enough hours in the night to enjoy it all, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try.

If you’re looking for a dance club, Maya Day & Nightclub is your spot. There are elaborate dance shows, dancers swinging from rafters and even fire breathers. There’s energy everywhere! And of course, A-list DJs are a must at this club.

For more of a laid-back atmosphere, head over to Wasted Grain. There’s no cover charge or dress code. You can opt to go out to the patio and relax with some friends or you can jam out to EDM hits on the second floor. No matter what mood you’re in, there’s something for you.

Now if you just feel like going out to relax, then Kazimierz World Wine Bar is the spot for you. It’s quiet and peaceful and has the most calming jazz music playing combined with beautiful subdued lighting.

No matter what you’re into, Scottsdale nightlife has something for the Millennial in you that wants to have fun.

Take a Look at Tucson

Another reason Arizona is a great destination for the Millennial crowd is Tucson, Arizona’s newly revitalized city. It’s gone through massive changes and now has a new supermarket and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. It’s also a hotspot for jobs with a growth of about 11.1 percent expected in the upcoming years. One unusual tourist attraction is Hotel Congress, where infamous bank robber John Dillinger hid out right before his arrest. Tourists and residents love visiting the hotel’s popular bar for a round of drinks and dancing.

Relocating to Phoenix

Phoenix is one of the best cities for Millennials. Not only does Arizona’s urban heart offer a low cost of living but it also has the best jobs for Millennials, meaning that lifelong dream of living alone in your apartment is a possibility.

It’s also a short drive away from all the great things Arizona has to offer, including Scottsdale, Tucson and, of course, the Grand Canyon.
