Why Phoenix Is the Most Livable City in the U.S.

Phoenix is attracting a large number of new citizens thanks to all the resources the city offers. Its health as a city is demonstrated by how few residents want to leave, and how many new people move here each year. The cultural richness in Phoenix is a product of the wide appeal it casts. There truly is something for everyone– read on to learn about a few of our favorites.

Sports Fan’s Paradise

If you like watching professional sports, Phoenix deserves to be on your radar. It’s represented by all of the big four leagues by viewership in the United States:

● NBA – The Phoenix Suns came to town in 1968 when they were the only major squad in the city. They started a movement that has seen Phoenix turn into one of the best sports towns in the country.
● NFL – The Cardinals have bounced around a little bit since the team was founded in Chicago in 1898. The team has held together through all the moves and is now the longest-run professional football team in the United States. They’re home in Phoenix now and seem to be making themselves comfortable. There have also been three Super Bowls in Phoenix in the last 25 years.
● NHL – Most people don’t think of ice when they think of Phoenix, but the Arizona Coyotes have carved out a home for themselves in the desert. There’s something oddly satisfying about walking past palm trees on your way into a hockey arena, and that experience alone makes these games a good time.
● MLB – The Arizona Diamondbacks brought our city its first national championship from a professional sports team. This is doubly impressive because they simultaneously set a record for the shortest amount of time between starting as a franchise team and winning a World Series. MLB fans also flock to Phoenix at the onset of every summer to get a look at their favorite teams in spring training.

Aside from the big four network television sports, Phoenix has a host of other teams that are just as fun to watch. The Phoenix Mercury is one of the most storied WNBA franchises of all time. Fanatics can also watch everything from indoor football to motorsports.

Cultural Attractions

The melting pot created by Phoenix’s attractive style of living has created a great selection of restaurants, music, and shopping. There are several lively areas of town where residents can enjoy outdoor entertainment, plays, and art. The architecture in the city is something of a work of art in itself. That’s not even to mention all of the major national music tours that love to stop here.

Excellent Urban Planning

Downtown Phoenix offers plenty of walkable areas with modern living and short commutes. This may be part of the reason Phoenix doesn’t have the level of horrific traffic some other popular cities have to deal with. The entertainment districts offer more attractions than even the most seasoned residents could ever hope to try. Outside of the downtown area, there is a graceful urban sprawl that gives way to beautiful neighborhoods, luxury houses, and golf courses. Nestled among mountains in the desert, the city and surrounding suburbs almost look like a beautiful mirage.

Geographic Location

The summers in Phoenix can feel a bit stifling at times, but the weather is very forgiving compared to many places in the country. Phoenix roadways are never piled high with snow during the winter, and precipitation as a whole is low compared to the national average. That’s one of the benefits of living in a desert. Another benefit is the short distance people have to travel from Phoenix to see some of the most impressive natural landscapes in the world. Cacti, mountains, beautiful rock formations, and even a certain famous canyon are all within a day trip of Phoenix.

Financial Opportunity

Phoenix has a booming job market thanks to the influx of new residents. The population growth creates a healthy economy. This economy, combined with a relatively low cost of living, allows people to focus on other aspects of their lives. Residents are able to focus on their social lives and enjoy everything the city has to offer. Compared to other high-ranking cities like San Francisco, all of Phoenix is accessible for most of its residents. A relatively low percentage of a total income goes toward housing, and most people here are comfortable.
