You can go to the store ahead of time and get some bottles for sampling, or have everyone bring one of their favorites. If you’re having your friends bring wine, ask them also to bring a snack that will go well with the bottle they’ve chosen.
Otherwise, stock up on a variety of different food options that will go well with different types of vino. Fruits, cheese, assorted nuts, and chocolates are some of our favorites for this type of event. You’ll have food and drinks covered, so you can all focus on connecting and enjoying the other activities you have lined up.
2 – Get Crafty
Making something together will get your creative juices flowing and be a great aid to the conversation. As an added bonus, everyone will have something to bring home with them as a memento of the night. You can make decorations like picture collages to hang on your walls– have some photos of yourselves printed ahead of time for an extra personal touch.
Another good option is to make terrariums or potted plants. Your local boutique plant shop or hardware store will have everything you need to get started on this. We’ve seen people make beautiful potted plants in coffee mugs and wine glasses, but you can always buy pots. If you don’t want to spend a lot on fancy ones, get simple clay pots and decorate them as part of the project.
From there, you’ll need an assortment of small plants– we recommend cacti and succulents since they’re perfect for Phoenix. That way, they’ll be able to survive on the windowsill or even outside. Get a soil mix that’s a good fit for the type of plant you’re putting in it, and find some decorative pebbles as well.
We recommend putting some rocks in the bottom of the pot so water has a place to drain out of the soil, especially if the pot doesn’t have a hole in the bottom. From there, fill your pot almost all the way with soil, make a little hole, and pop your plant in. Cover the top of the soil with a layer of rocks around the plant to make it beautiful. Some people like to add crystals or even little figurines to give a fun and personal look to this top layer of rocks.
3 – Be Present
No matter what you’re doing, it’s nice to live in the moment and give the rest of the girls your undivided attention. You can do this by enacting a strict no phones policy. Get a small basket or designate another landing spot for everyone to place their phones once everyone has arrived. You might be amazed by how great it feels to get away from the distraction of work, social media, and late-night texts from your ex.
You’ll be able to focus on the people you’re with, which will make the rest of the night better. If you want to take things up a notch, you can even make a game out of it. For example, maybe the first person to check her phone has to order a pizza for everyone or host the next girls night.
4 – Have a Movie Night
Let all the girls know to wear something comfortable– maybe even a pajama party is in order. From there, make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating, a cozy blanket or two, and excellent viewing options. If you want to catch up during the movie, throw on an old classic that everyone has already seen so no one gets frustrated by missing a line of dialogue.
If you really want to get into the movie, try to do it big so it doesn’t feel like any other night of sitting around the TV. Cultivate a movie theater vibe by turning out all the lights, then make sure your screen and sound game is on point. Pick out a great movie that appeals to everyone, then settle into your spots, quiet down, and get fully immersed.
Of course, you can’t replicate the movie theater environment without snacks! Have a spread of popcorn, candy, and refreshments. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, ask everyone to chip in with their favorite movie treats and bring enough to share. Either way, it will still be a lot less expensive than a night out on the town.
5 – Cook a Meal Together
Host your own fancy dinner party, and let everyone chip in. If some of your friends don’t have great cooking skills, they can be in charge of chopping vegetables, supplying a cheese board, or whipping up a batch of brownies from the box. If you already know all of your friends’ tastes, it shouldn’t be too hard to coordinate a meal that will please everyone. You can assign certain dishes to people, or do all the shopping yourself and get paid back later. Catch up as you get busy in the kitchen, then enjoy your efforts by sitting around the table like a family.
6 – Beautify
Pamper yourselves with a spa night in your apartment. You can paint each others’ nails, do each others’ hair, and put on some face masks. Throw on a movie or some music as background noise, then learn from all of your friends’ cosmetic tips. If you really want to get into it, you can have everyone bring a robe so you feel like you’re at a real spa. As an bonus, you’ll wake up the next morning with your skin feeling great. You might just get some good Instagram shots in the process, too.
7 – Night Swims
