How to Be More Organized in Your Apartment

There are lots of ways to add style to your Phoenix apartment, but how do you keep all your furniture, decorations, and other possessions organized? Some apartments don’t give you a ton of space, which can be a problem if you have a lot of belongings. Make the most out of your apartment by finding smart storage solutions, and you’ll be amazed by how easy it is to create a neat look and style. If the task of organizing your apartment seems daunting, it may be easiest to break it up by room.

Organization by Room

You don’t have to spend an entire day organizing your apartment and finding the perfect space for everything. Sometimes it’s better to tackle one small task at a time, so consider these baby steps you can take toward a clean, organized Phoenix apartment:

Organize Your Bedroom

We spend a lot of time in our bedrooms. It’s where we begin and end each day, and it plays an important part in our lives. Having an organized bedroom can help you feel calm and comfortable, which is awesome when you’re trying to get to sleep. There are a few key components of a clean looking bedroom.

  •  Neat Bed – Make your bed every day. It’s nice to start the day with a small victory, and it will also go a long way toward making your room look organized.
  •  Organized Closet – Even some of the neatest rooms have closets that look like disaster areas. Tidy up by reducing the number of clothes you have, especially if you haven’t worn some items in years. If you’re still short on space, hang a few things on the back of your closet door, or add other storage solutions like shelving units.
  • Clean Dresser – Fold and store your clothes vertically to help keep your dresser drawers neat and organized. This will help prevent everything from becoming a mess when you need to pull something out of the bottom of the drawer. Keep the top of your dresser free from clutter, too. If you have too many odds and ends up there, find small containers that allow you to store your things.
  • Other Storage – There are plenty of creative ways to add storage to your bedroom. Put shallow containers under your bed to hold things you don’t need to use often. Alternatively, you can hang shelves on the walls to store books, knickknacks, and other items.

Organize Your Bathroom

Bathrooms often run out of space, especially if you have a lot of personal hygiene or cosmetic products. If you let your bathroom become cluttered, it will also be hard to clean. Don’t let it get gross in a hurry. Focus on a couple of key things to make sure your bathroom doesn’t turn into an embarrassment.

  •  Reduce Clutter – If you’re not using something in your bathroom, get rid of it. You may have old medicine bottles with pills you’ll never take or nail polish you’ll never use. Get them out of the bathroom to make space for what you actually need.
  • Add Storage – Most bathrooms don’t have a lot of storage space, so you have to maximize what you have. Things like shower caddies and wall-mounted units will help solve that problem. Get a container with a few compartments to hold everyday items like your toothbrush, toothpaste, and more. Cleaning supplies and other essentials can go under the vanity or in the closet.

Organize Your Kitchen

It’s hard to cook meals when your kitchen is a mess. You’ll have to work around the clutter, and it can make it difficult to find what you need. Tidy up, and you might be amazed by how much easier it is to prepare a delicious meal.

  •  No Outside Messes – If you’re a messy chef, your kitchen will get dirty enough without adding personal items to the fray. Don’t kick off your shoes or empty your pockets in the kitchen. Get in the habit of clearing things that don’t belong to every day.
  • Sort by Function – Keep similar items together so it’s easier to find them and put them away. You could have a drawer for barbeque tools, a cabinet for dishes, and a place for your coffee supplies. Items you don’t use often can go in the places that are a little bit harder to reach.
  • Pack It in – Find a way to maximize your storage space by fitting things into appropriately-sized places. Use dividers, containers, and other organizational tools to get the most from every inch. If you’re still running out of room, look into options you can hang.

Organize Your Living Room

This is where you might sit and relax after a long day of work. It’s also where you entertain guests, so you want to put your best foot forward. As with every other aspect of your Phoenix apartment, living room organization can be broken into easier subtasks.

  • Put It Away – Most people do all kinds of different things in their living rooms, and the materials from all those activities can start to pile up. Think about what makes up most of the mess in your living room. Is it DVDs, books, video games, arts and crafts supplies, or something else? Whatever it is, find containers that can keep it neat.
  • Cord Management – We live in a ’wired’ time. Technology is everywhere, and especially in the living room. Your TV may be connected to cable, a DVD player, a video game system, and who knows what else. Look into cable organization options to make sure you don’t end up with a tangled, ugly mess.
  • Form and Function – If you don’t have enough space for all the furniture, decorations, and storage you want, look for pieces that are a combination of multiple things. Your coffee table can also have storage space underneath. An ornate shelving unit could complement your style. The opportunities are endless.

Organize Your Home Office

There are several benefits to having a home office. It makes it easier to work from home, as so many people do in this day and age. Even if you just use it for personal work or studies, it helps create a separate place where you can get in the zone. Keep it neat to stay productive.

  • Open or Closed – Decide if you can keep all your office supplies neat enough to get away with open shelving. If not, closed cabinets may be better for you. You may even be able to tuck storage under your desk or in a closet to keep it out of sight and maximize floor space.
  • Upgrade – Modern technology is often more compact, so upgrading from your old behemoth of a desktop tower could save you a lot of space. Going digital will also reduce your need for paper files.
