5 Tips for Choosing the Right Apartment Floor Plan

When you consult your trusty apartment guide for Phoenix, one thing to think about is how to choose the right floor plan for your needs. Depending on what you want from your space, some layouts will be far superior to others. At this stage, it’s important to think about how you’ll use the apartment most. If you plan to live by yourself, imagine where you’ll spend the most time and feel the most comfortable when you’re hanging out around your place after work. If you plan to have a roommate or roommates, think about how you’ll share the space. Regardless of your cohabitation situation, the following five things are great to consider while you look at apartment floor plans.

1 – Storage Space

Storage space comes in all shapes and sizes. If you have an extensive wardrobe, you’ll need a large closet in your bedroom. Something like a walk-in closet can make picking your daily outfit much more enjoyable than rifling through multiple sets of drawers to find what you need. If you have a hobby that requires a lot of equipment, you may want to think about other storage options that can accommodate that. For example, do you have a place to put your bike? Is there going to be a good way to store your sewing machine in a common area so you can easily use it while watching TV?

2 – Common Areas and Entertainment Space

If you have a roommate, it may be more important to you that you pick an apartment with a lot of common areas. It’s pleasant to hang out in your room if you live alone, but living with roommates makes it nice to have a space where you can all be equally comfortable. This is also where you think about how much you’ll want to have company over. If you’re going to host people for a lot of dinner parties, you’ll need space for a large table and some chairs. If you’re the go-to host for game day, make sure you have room for the couch, the armchair, and the beanbag. An open living space is a must if you plan to host gatherings for drinks and to socialize.

3 – Patios and Decks

There are a lot of reasons Phoenix is awesome, and one of them is that it’s nice outside so many days a year. If you have a patio or deck right off of your unit, you can enjoy the fresh air without having to leave your own home. Some people get immense joy out of kicking their shoes off and heading to their outdoor sitting area for a nice lemonade or beer after a long day at the office. If that sounds like you, look into units with external doors.

4 – The Culinary Stage

Cooking is becoming somewhat of a lost art, so some people might not care so much about kitchen space anymore. On the other hand, if you’ve been known to whip up a masterpiece from time to time, you probably don’t want to settle for a cramped kitchen area. People seem to gather in the kitchen at a lot of social events, so make sure you have room for guests if you plan on inviting company over.

Some units have convenient breakfast bars or similar setups so your guests can sit comfortably and chat with you while you put the finishing touches on a meal. The added counter space is another thing to be mindful of here– don’t let your recipes fall flat because you ran out of room to work.

5 – Bonus Rooms

Sometimes you just need an extra room. Maybe you get a lot of visitors from out of town, and you’d like a place for them to stay that’s nicer than the couch. If you work from home, you can turn the second bedroom into your office. The possibilities are nearly endless. An extra bedroom or small bonus room can serve a lot of different purposes:
● A gaming room
● The guitar gallery and music laboratory
● Your own personal library full of books and comfortable seating
● The craft room where you work on DIY projects
● A second common area so you and your roommates can get space away from each other at times
● A shrine to Justin Bieber

Whatever it is, it’s yours. We’re not here to judge.
