6 Ways to Get Your Phoenix Apartment Cozy for Winter

The warm weather in Phoenix means our residents don’t spend a lot of time thinking about how to make their home cozy and inviting for winter. That’s why these tips weren’t one of the first resources we supplied for our tenants. That said, even Phoenix temperatures occasionally get down toward freezing levels. Be prepared with these six tips on how to cozy up your home.

1 – Blankets Galore

If your apartment has excellent amenities, you won’t have any problem keeping your inside temperature at a comfortable level. Even so, things might be a little bit cooler than normal if you’ve been away all day with the heat off. Alternatively, you might not want to spend the money on your energy bill. In either case, it’s nice to have a wide variety of soft, warm blankets on hand. It will make your bed more comfortable and provides a pleasant way to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie.

It’s especially helpful to have a blanket right when you get in after walking around in the cold. For those of us that aren’t used to being cold, the thought of your favorite blanket at home can give you something to look forward to while you’re out and about. Find one that goes well with your furniture and other decorations, and it will add a comforting element of style to your interior design. Blankets in neutral colors go with the cozy winter color palette, but don’t let that stop you from doing your thing if you have a strong preference for bright neon colors!

2 – Area Rugs

Rugs are like the blankets of the floor. They prevent you from having to put your bare feet on cold tile or hardwood floors and make a great addition to any room that doesn’t have carpet. They’re especially nice for the bedroom, so you don’t have to put your feet on a cool floor first thing in the morning. They’re also lovely in the living room or any other area where you might spend a lot of time without shoes or socks on. Find one that meshes well with your style, and keep it looking clean and fresh. In addition to the feelings of coziness it provides, a great rug can really tie the room together.

3 – Candles

If you’re using them correctly, candles shouldn’t do anything to actually make you feel any warmer. What they can do is provide a comforting flicker of light. The presence of even a small flame from your candle can bring a warm light to your space. Additionally, scented candles can add to the cozy feeling, especially if you get a scent that goes well with winter. Pine, cinnamon, and sugar cookie scents are all great options for those who don’t already have a favorite type of candle.

4 – Get Cozy Loungewear

This is a great complement or alternative to having lots of blankets and some rugs. Some slippers can help keep your feet warm, and they go everywhere you go to eliminate any and all contact with cold floors. Keep a pair by the front door so you can change right from your shoes into some slippers, or keep them by the bed so you can put them on first thing in the morning.

Once you’ve eliminated chilly toes, take care of the rest of your body too. A comfortable pair of sweatpants and a well-worn sweatshirt are great for lounging around the house. If you don’t even want to bother with something that close to normal clothes, you may prefer a robe instead.

5 – Use Great Lighting

Even here in Phoenix, the days get shorter during winter. Unless you plan on hibernating, you’ll have to rely more on the lights in your apartment. The right lighting solutions can make a world of difference and help you avoid the cold fluorescent look. You can shop around to find LED lighting with warmer tones, and upgrading to LED will help you save on your energy bill at the same time.

6 – Decorate for the Season

Put your holiday cards up, and scatter a few other decorations around your place as well. It won’t change the temperature, but it will at least warm your heart by reminding you of all the good things that come with the winter season. A little bit of holiday cheer will help you feel festive instead of under the weather. To go the extra mile, you can hang up some photos from the holidays to help yourself feel more connected to family and friends and savor good memories.
