10 Essentials for Sunday Game Day

We’ve talked in the past about some great things to do around Phoenix, but there’s one thing that’s especially heavy on our minds this season: football. Sundays are for the NFL, and we’re committed to cultivating the best watch party experience possible. If you’re ready to own every Sunday, get your lucky jersey on and prepare to follow these 10 tips.

1  The Snacks

If you have a crew over to watch the game, you’re going to need some food to keep everybody going for the full day. Pizza is a great football food, but you don’t necessarily have to order out, especially if you’re on a budget. Look up some easy game day snacks, or have everybody bring a dish. Take it from us: the crockpot is your friend when it comes to convenient game day foods.

2  The Drinks

Food is only half of the nourishment you’ll need for game day. Most people associate Sunday game day with a nice cold beer, and who can blame them? A cold beverage is a perfect complement to all the game day food, and you don’t want to realize you’ve forgotten to stock the refrigerator when you see the constant parade of beer ads. Stock up on sodas and other soft drinks, too, so you can pace yourself for the long day.

3  Comfortable Surroundings

Maybe it’s your favorite jersey, or your lucky socks, or even a comforting blanket that will get you through the tense minutes. Whatever you need to be comfortable, make sure you’ve got it near the couch to accommodate a full day of lounging while you watch feats of athletic prowess. Depending on the kind of watch parties you throw, you may want to have all the fixings for a good nap during the later games.

4  The Games Themselves

This should be able to go without being said, but you need to have the games on for a proper game day watch party. That’s kind of the whole point. Make sure you have the right cable package to get all the big games. For times when there are multiple games on at the same time, come up with a plan. Are you going to toggle back and forth? Are you going to commit to one game? If your squad contains representatives from different fandoms, make sure everyone knows what to expect.

5  A Good TV

This goes with the previous point a little bit. No one wants to come to your apartment and huddle around a laptop to watch the game. Big screen TVs are getting more and more accessible over time, and they’re practically a necessity for football season. If you don’t have one, get one. It will come in handy for movie nights and other things too. You could even look into multiple screens or a projector if you want to go all out.

6  A Soundbar

This is part of the TV setup, but it can’t be overlooked. Make sure you can hear the calls, the crowd, and all the other sounds of game day. Soundbars and speaker systems can take you a lot further than the stock speakers in your TV.

7  Good Seating

Make sure you have space for everyone to sit down, and to do so comfortably. You can move some dining room chairs over in a pinch if you get some unexpected guests, but the couch is rarely more important than it is on Sunday, and a nice recliner goes a long way too.

8  Team Decorations

If you’re really committed to your team, represent them in your apartment. Team napkins, pint glasses, coasters, and more can really set the stage for your next big game day. Your friends will love it (as long as they’re rooting for the right team).

9  Hosting Accessories

Even if you only have a few people over, they may be at your house for a long time, so be prepared. Tidy things up a little bit. Find your bottle opener. Get things like plates, paper towels, and glasses out so you won’t have to pry yourself away from the TV every time someone needs something.

10  The Company

Some people need to be alone during the game. We understand. But if that’s not you, decide who you want to watch with and invite them over ahead of time.
