As a fairly small charter school of 430-plus students, this high school represents an eclectic community with a 98 percent minority population. West Phoenix High School is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s top charter schools. It boasts a small and safe learning community that focuses on the individual student.
University High School (9419 W. Van Buren St., Tolleson, AZ 85353)
With a mission to prepare students for their college journey, this high school was ranked the No. 7 school in the state in 2017 by U.S. News & World Report. This report also ranked University High School 21st out of 30,000-plus schools in the nation for college preparation.
Linda Abril Educational Academy (3000 N. 19th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85015)
This high school’s vision is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where students can begin to focus on preparing for college. Linda Abril offers a small-school community, where struggling juniors and seniors can have personalized access to alternative credit recovery programs.
Bostrom High School (3535 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85017)
Ideal for students who thrive in a nontraditional environment, Bostrom High School offers course plans designed around student needs. This Phoenix Union High School District school is the largest comprehensive high school in Phoenix. Trevor G Browneis recognized for offering a variety of courses, ranging from core subjects to career and technology education. They also focus on accessibility by providing evening school opportunities and other helpful programs.
Premier High School (7544 W. Indian School Road # A2, Phoenix, AZ 85033)
This public charter school offers a caring environment where all students and staff are encouraged to actively participate and contribute. This is an excellent school for students who excel in a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
Mission Academy High School (4301 W. Fillmore St., Phoenix, AZ 85043)
Another public charter school in West Phoenix, Mission Academy works in collaboration with Rite of Passage, which offers support to troubled and at-risk youth in impoverished communities and foster programs. Mission Academy offers blended learning opportunities that involve online classes, job training, flexible schedules, credit recovery, and individualized teacher mentoring and tutoring.
